Staff Software Engineer, Internal Platform & Tooling

Palo Alto, CA · In-person · Full-time

This role is in person at our Palo Alto office. We hire from anywhere and help you relocate.

The work

The last mile is where AI software stalls: intent that survives translation, tests the model can’t argue with, permissions that hold at runtime. You build the internal platform that closes it — the attractor pipelines that return to a known-good state, the critics that act as law, and the tooling that lets a small team supervise a lot of agents without drowning.

What you’ll do

  • Own the internal software factory: build systems, agent orchestration, eval and validation harnesses, and the paved roads every engagement runs on.
  • Make reliability a property of the pipeline, not a heroic afterthought — reproducibility, veracity checks, rollback, and observability by default.
  • Build digital-twin and rehearsal environments so we can trigger failures we can’t safely trigger live.
  • Multiply the team: turn repeated delivery lessons into reusable tooling and operating rituals.
  • Keep the platform legible — dashboards and controls a human can reason about under pressure.

Who you are

  • 8+ years in software, with real depth in platform, infrastructure, or developer-tooling work — and the range to reach up into product.
  • Systems-minded and imaginative: you design for the failure modes nobody has hit yet.
  • Comfortable owning ambiguous, foundational work with no template to copy.
  • You measure your impact by how much faster and safer everyone else ships.
  • Curious, opinionated, kind.

What we offer

  • Competitive cash + meaningful equity.
  • Small team, high agency, long horizons.
  • The chance to build the factory that complex enterprises will learn from.
